Today we entered our fourth and final week of training at Mission Training International in Palmer Lake, Colorado. This experience has been so much more than we expected! We will write an update soon sharing some of the highlights as well as a few of the ways this training has impacted and prepared us for our work in Greece– including how John got “the boot!”
As we mentioned in our last update, our Visa appointment has been rescheduled for Monday, October 8 at 9am. This is an important and critical meeting. Please join us in prayer. We are asking God to grant us favor with the Greek Consulate officers and for abundant wisdom during the interview process. Our visa application requires a booked itinerary. So… We have a departure date!!!
Assuming our visa is accepted, we will move to Greece Sunday, November 4 at 4:15pm from Chicago O’Hare International Airport WITH COBALT!!
If that wasn’t enough excitement, we want to share some even bigger news.
We have accepted an additional role with Hellenic Ministries. We will be serving as the House Parents for Hellenic Ministries’ Hope Center. If you had the opportunity to hear our story, then you know a little bit about this ministry.
During John’s first trip to Greece in 2009, he saw the beginning of a dream–a home to serve and minister to unwed mothers in crisis pregnancy. Over the past few years, Hellenic Ministries (HM) has seen a shift in the needs and population of women seeking help from The Hope Center.
Specifically, The Hope Center has transformed into a safe house for women who have been sexually exploited and find themselves facing a crisis pregnancy. HM has partnered with A21 and Damaris House to access the much needed counseling, job training, and recovery services these women need.
Our primary role as house parents will be to model a healthy Christ-centered family while loving and mentoring the young women in the home. Amy will also be able to use her training with Adventures in Missions Beauty for Ashes program to help these women see and find Christ in the midst of their pain and crisis.
We are excited to take on this role and see it as a beautiful fit alongside our other responsibilities in development and communications. Because of where the home is located we will be positioned to serve Greek nationals, the Roma community, and refugees. HM has a great vision for this area. We expect to see God transform not only the women in our home but also the community around us!
To learn more watch these short videos. The first explains the original vision of the Hope Center. The second is in Greek but shows the heart of the ministry.
None of this would be possible without your generous ongoing support through both prayer and giving. We are thrilled to announce that our monthly budget is just over 80% pledged! God is such a faithful provider!
Thank you for committing to give of your resources to support us in this ministry. While we continue to move forward in faith through John leaving his career, purchasing plane tickets, and making plans to move and serve in Greece, it is remains crucial that we raise the final 20% of our necessary support before we leave. In fact, this is Hellenic Ministries’ desire and request.
That means, we are looking for individuals, families, and churches to partner with us on an ongoing basis– whether monthly, quarterly, or annually. As you can see from the chart below, we only need about 18 additional partners to reach our goal. Almost anyone has the capability to partner with us in this great work!
Is partnering with us financially something you would be interested in?
If so, you can begin giving right now! Simply, choose the giving method you prefer from the options below. The only thing we ask, is that you let us know. This allows us to thank you personally, track our goals, and to honor you through prayer and regular updates. We so value our partners and are grateful for the team God has given us to share in the fruit of this ministry.
With Joy and Love,
John and Amy Patton
